Romania’s 2026 Budget Hits Deadlock as Coalition Tensions Rise

Romanian lawmakers hit a deadlock in budget negotiations, potentially jeopardizing efforts to narrow a fiscal deficit that’s become the biggest in the European Union.

At a meeting to review each of the budget items on Wednesday the Social Democrats tried and failed to include their proposed welfare package that would hike social spending in the draft.
