The path to getting tariff refunds hit a major milestone on April 20 when US Customs and Border Protection began allowing companies to submit refund requests. But importers likely won’t see refunds for at least two to three months, according to the government.

The Supreme Court on Feb. 20 struck down duties that President Donald Trump’s administration imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, or IEEPA — but it didn’t directly address refunds. The justices left it up to the lower US Court of International Trade to determine whether refunds would be available, how they would be doled out, and to whom.
