Marcos Eyes Power to Cut Oil Taxes, Seeks Workers’ Safety
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. plans to seek emergency power to slash taxes on petroleum products amid the war in the Middle East, as his government finds ways to ensure the safety of millions of Filipino workers in the region.
“I am going to talk to the leaders in both the House and in the Senate,” Marcos said in a briefing on Tuesday, alongside key Cabinet officials. Congress could “give me, the president, the authority to reduce excise tax on petroleum products should Dubai crude exceed $80 per barrel,” he added.
