Live Nation Monopoly Has ‘Broken’ Concert Market, DOJ Says
The Justice Department and dozens of states attacked Live Nation Entertainment Inc. and its Ticketmaster subsidiary over allegations that the company illegally monopolized much of the market for live music, as a trial over a major clash more than 15 years in the making got underway Tuesday in New York City.
“The concert ticket industry is broken,” Justice Department lawyer David Dahlquist told jurors in his opening statement. Live Nation “illegally used their monopoly power to help themselves at the expense” of artists, venues and fans, he said.
