Japan Power Futures Jump as Iran Conflict Threatens Gas Supplies

Japanese power futures jumped after the escalating conflict in the Middle East spurred traders to hedge against rising energy costs.

The Tokyo-area baseload contract for fiscal 2026 on the European Energy Exchange rose 11% to a new high of 13.58 yen per kilowatt-hour on Monday. The exchange saw one of its busiest days with 2.8 terawatt-hours traded, led by the fiscal 2026 product, said Bob Takai, chief executive officer of EEX Japan.
