Nvidia to Invest $4 Billion in Data Center Optics Companies

Nvidia Corp. agreed to invest $4 billion in two companies that develop data center optics that are essential for artificial intelligence, part of a broader push to cultivate AI infrastructure systems.

Nvidia will invest $2 billion apiece in Lumentum Holdings Inc. and Coherent Corp. in multiyear deals, it said in separateBloomberg Terminal statements on Monday. Both tie-ups include purchase agreements and access rights for advanced laser components. The money will go toward supporting research and development.
