Italy’s Deficit Breached EU’s 3% Ceiling in 2025 After All

Italy didn’t manage to meet the European Union’s 3% deficit ceiling last year, an unexpected setback for Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government.

Despite initial forecasts that the shortfall would meet the Brussels target set to keep public finances in check, data published by statistics office Istat on Monday revealed a reading of 3.1% of gross domestic product.
