At least 169 people were killed in South Sudan as insurgents attacked a village in the nation that’s teetering on the brink of a civil war.

The militants attacked Ruweng’s Abiemnom County on Sunday, and fighting ensured for three hours, James Monyluak, the region’s information minister, said by phone. The death toll may rise as authorities discover more bodies, Monyluak said.
