Peru confirmed the start of the El Niño weather phenomenon, which could last until November with weak intensity and may reach moderate levels by July.

Rains associated with El Niño could particularly affect the country’s northern coast, “with extreme events possible in March and April,” the national agency monitoring this weather pattern, ENFEN, said in a statement.
