Photographer: Megan Varner/BloombergPresident Donald Trump said that last year’s government shutdown cost the US “at least two points in GDP” in a social media post less than an hour before the government was expected to release the first estimate of the fourth-quarter change in inflation-adjusted gross domestic product.
“The Democrat Shutdown cost the U.S.A. at least two points in GDP. That’s why they are doing it, in mini form, again. No Shutdowns!” Trump wrote Friday. He went on to call for lower interest rates and criticize Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.
