Rubio Says Cuba’s Only Path Forward Is to Open Its Economy
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Cuba’s Communist regime will need to give its people political and economic freedom for the US to ease pressure that’s recently led to blackouts and disrupted daily life on the island.
Cuba’s tight control of its economy is a model that has failed elsewhere in the world, Rubio said in an interview with Bloomberg News Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. He said the regime is in a “dire situation” because it has no subsidies coming from any other country.
