Samsung Plant Regains Permit as Environmental Row Hits Orban

Hungary restored the environmental permit of Samsung SDI’s battery plant, just as a report on dangerous toxicity at the facility put Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s government on the defensive ahead of April’s elections.

Samsung SDI’s environmental permit for its Göd plant north of Budapest is once again valid following a ruling by the supreme court, known as the Kuria, the regional government office said in a statement to the MTI state news service on Wednesday. The decision struck down a lower-court ruling that had invalidated the facility’s permit.
