UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer suffered another dent to his authority this week when his governing Labour party lost a special election near Manchester to the left-wing Greens.

The defeat came just weeks before countrywide local elections in May when Labour is expected to take a battering — potentially opening the door to a leadership challenge.
