Africa’s largest annual agricultural trade exhibition will ban cloven-hoofed animals from this year event as South Africa struggles to control outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease.

“Foot-and-mouth disease has now, quite literally, come close to home,” Danie Minnaar, chairman of the Nampo Harvest Day committee, said in a statement on Friday. “We cannot risk creating a platform where threats cannot be effectively controlled.”
