About a quarter of the workers typically stationed at BP Plc’s Whiting, Indiana, refinery are preparing for a strike or lockout, in a move that has the potential to disrupt fuel supplies in the US Midwest.

More than 800 workers at the site are members of United Steelworkers, and 98% of them have voted to authorize a strike, the union said in a statement on Thursday, adding that there has been no progress in negotiations with the oil company.
