BNP Paribas SA and Societe Generale SA are on the cusp of a benchmark that has eluded two of France’s largest-listed lenders for years.

The stocks are close to trading back above book value — a key bank valuation metric — for the first time since at least 2010, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The lenders are set to report full-year results this week, which could help pave the way forward for their respective shares.
