Amazon Launches AI-Enhanced Alexa for Prime Subscribers in US

Amazon.com Inc. is taking the wrapper off its upgraded Alexa in the US, offering the AI-enhanced digital assistant to paying Prime customers and introducing a free version for everyone else.

Last February, the company announced the refreshed digital assistant, which was built atop large language models capable of generating responses to questions on the fly. Earlier editions of Alexa, which most people interact with using smart speakers, relied on custom-built replies to common questions, a once futuristic technology rendered outdated by the arrival of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
