Peter Mandelson tried to involve Jeffrey Epstein in a deal to create a private bank to manage the Republic of Congo’s oil funds, documents released by the US Department of Justice show.

A Congolese official asked Mandelson to help find Qatari or Singaporean investors for the banking project in October 2010 in his role as chairman and co-founder of Global Counsel LLP — positions he took up after leaving the UK government earlier that year.
