Venezuela’s interim government announced the closure of the infamous Helicoide prison in Caracas and promised broad amnesty for political prisoners on Friday, one of its most significant gestures yet to meet the Trump administration’s demands since the capture of Nicolás Maduro.

“It should be a law that helps heal the wounds left by political confrontation, redirects justice in the country, and restores coexistence among Venezuelans,” acting President Delcy Rodríguez said during an event in Caracas with the judiciary on Friday.
