The US Justice Department is conducting a civil rights investigation into the death of Minnesota nurse Alex Pretti, who was shot numerous times by federal agents last week.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said the department is conducting a probe of the Jan. 24 shooting of Pretti during a protest against the immigration crackdown in Minneapolis. The Department of Homeland Security also is investigating the shooting by its agents.
