US, Philippines Stage Drills at Disputed Shoal Claimed By China

The US and the Philippines conducted their first joint maritime cooperative activity for the year near a disputed South China Sea shoal where China recently sought to boost patrols.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines and US Indo-Pacific Command deployed air and naval assets in the Scarborough Shoal on January 25 to 26, the Southeast Asian nation’s military said in a statement.
