Malaysia Holds Rates on Upbeat Outlook Despite Tariff Risks

Malaysia kept interest rates unchanged after its economy proved resilient to tariff shocks, with growth last year beating official expectations amid muted inflation.

Bank Negara Malaysia left the overnight policy rate at 2.75% in its first monetary policy decision of the year on Thursday, a move seen by all 22 economists in a Bloomberg survey. The central bank has cut borrowing costs only once in the past five years, and said its current policy stance is “appropriate and supportive” of the economy.
