Only 165 of the 720-member Parliament voted against the EU’s top executive during the vote on Thursday in Strasbourg. Von der Leyen was absent from the proceedings as she prepared to attend an emergency EU leaders’ summit in Brussels to discuss the bloc’s troubled relationship with the US.
