Bessent Urged by Warren to Probe ‘Opaque’ Data Center Financings

US Senator Elizabeth Warren and three other Senate Democrats are asking Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to launch a probe into large debt packages supporting artificial intelligence and the risks they pose to the financial system.

Big technology companies are poised to spend trillions of dollars on the infrastructure needed to power AI models. While historically such spending has been paid for with company profits or equity, these companies are increasingly turning to private financing partners and “complex and opaque” debt markets for “staggering” sums, according to the Jan. 22 letter seen by Bloomberg News.
