UK to Overhaul Competition Regulator in Effort to Boost Growth

The UK government is set to shake up the way its competition authority scrutinizes mergers, in an overhaul aimed at helping to boost economic growth.

The Department for Business and Trade is planning to streamline the Competition and Markets Authority’s oversight of the merger process, and could restrict the watchdog’s jurisdiction to examine certain types of deals such as those between two foreign companies, according to a person familiar with the plans.
