European Stocks Extend Record as Traders Monitor Trump-Fed Feud
European stocks edged higher to a new closing record as investors weighed the impact of the Trump administration’s legal action against the Federal Reserve on the central bank’s independence.
The Stoxx Europe 600 Index gained 0.2% at the close. Mining shares gained the most as gold and silver hit records after the US Justice Department threatened Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell with a criminal indictment. Travel and leisure as well as auto stocks were the biggest decliners.
