Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni said Europe should engage with Russia over Ukraine, a pivot in her foreign policy that aligns her with recent comments from French President Emmanuel Macron.

“I think Macron is right, the time has come for Europe to speak to Russia,” she told reporters on Friday during her annual press conference. Meloni also cautioned that the outreach would only bring a “limited” contribution and would work in favor of Russian President Vladimir Putin if done “piecemeal in a disorderly fashion.”
