The record-breaking advance in US equities paused on Wednesday as mixed economic reports and a flurry of social media posts from President Donald Trump tested risk appetite.

The S&P 500 Index fell 0.3% in New York after notching a record closing high in the prior trading session. The technology-heavy Nasdaq 100 Index was up 0.1%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slid 0.9% as a nascent rotation away from the Magnificent Seven paused.
