A gauge of US transportation stocks closed just shy of a record on Monday after its biggest rally in more than three weeks. The gains were the latest leg of a recovery from a long slump fueled by last year’s global trade turmoil.

The Dow Jones Transportation Average rose 1.2% to 17,737.81 points, the highest since November 2024. The index gained as much as 1.8% earlier in the day. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at a record.
