Chubu Electric Probes Safety Data Mishandling at Nuclear Plant

Japanese regional utility Chubu Electric Power Co. is investigating possible misconduct in compiling earthquake safety data, which could delay the resumption of its nuclear power plant and further erode public trust in the firm.

Chubu Electric has established an independent panel of external experts to probe how it selected seismic data, according to a statement on Monday. The company said it may have used methods different from what it presented to regulators for a safety review of units 3 and 4 at its Hamaoka Nuclear Power Plant.
