Won Sees Choppy Moves After Rallying to Strongest Since November
The South Korean won fluctuated after rising to the strongest level since early November on a recent warning by authorities that they would act against excessive declines in the currency.
The won was up 0.2% to 1,444.20 per dollar after advancing as much as 1.2% in the morning session. The move followed a 2.3% jump on Wednesday which was triggered by a warning from policymakers that undue weakness in the currency would elicit a strong response from the government. Onshore markets were shut on Thursday for the Christmas holiday.
