European defense startup Frankenburg Technologies says its tiny air-defense missiles have been successfully tested against high-speed attack drones like those Russia launches at Ukraine, as militaries hunt for cost-effective ways to counter cheap threats.

The company carried out tests at the Adazi NATO base in Latvia last week, using the short-range missile to strike a 2-meter (6.5 foot) drone traveling at 200 kilometers per hour (124 mph). The company describes the system as a “breakthrough,” allowing defenders to reserve higher-end hardware such as Patriot batteries for bigger threats.
