Diageo Sells East Africa Brewer to Asahi for $2.3 Billion

Diageo Plc agreed to sell its majority stake in East African Breweries Ltd. to Japan’s Asahi Group Holdings Ltd. in a $2.3 billion deal as the struggling UK distiller streamlines operations to speed its turnaround.

The deal includes Diageo’s 65% stake in East African Breweries as well as its majority holding in UDVK, a Kenya-based spirits producer and importer, the company saidBloomberg Terminal Wednesday. Bloomberg News previously reported that the UK company had chosen banks for a strategic review of East African Breweries.
