Donald Trump has sued the British Broadcasting Corporation for $10 billion in damages after a documentary about the US president gave the impression that he made a direct call for violence ahead of the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol.

The British public broadcaster’s director-general, Tim Davie, tendered his resignation in November after a leaked memo showed the makers of the Panorama episode, Trump: A Second Chance?, had spliced together separate parts of the speech. BBC Chair Samir Shah said the edit “wrongly gave the impression of a direct call for violent action.”
