“The city of Uvira is now liberated,” Lawrence Kanyuka, a spokesman for M23’s political wing, said in a post on X. He called on the population of the city, which overlooks the commercial hub of Bujumbura in neighboring Burundi across Lake Tanganyika, to go about their business as usual.
