Norway’s central bank sees no need to introduce a digital currency for now, in an assessment that cements the conservative stance of Nordic authorities regarding such instruments.

The verdict caps several years of research by the Norwegian central bank into whether, and in what form, it might need to issue a CBDC. Cash use in the Nordic country has declined to one of the lowest levels globally, adding urgency to the debate.
