German exports rose slightly in October, adding to optimism that Europe’s largest economy is slowly emerging from a multi-year slump.

Shipments abroad climbed 0.1% from the previous month, the statistics office said Tuesday. That’s below the 0.2% median estimate in a Bloomberg survey and followed September’s revised 1.5% gain. Imports fell more than anticipated, expanding the trade surplus to €16.9 billion ($19.7 billion).
