Ex-BlackBerry CEO Urges Canada to Shield Itself From ‘Trump Doctrine’

Photographer: Tony Avelar/BloombergTechnology investor Jim Balsillie is calling on Mark Carney’s government to do more to build economic resilience and exert sovereignty over Canadian data, saying it’s urgent to do so after the US released a new national security policy.
Balsillie — the former head of BlackBerry Ltd. who now chairs the Council of Canadian Innovators — said Canadian policymakers are mired in the status quo when it comes to productivity and the digital economy. They should be shocked into action by the US National Security Strategy published by the White House last week, he said.
