More than 200,000 people have fled renewed fighting in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo in the past week, according to the United Nations, as rebels continue to advance just days after US President Donald Trump declared peace had been reached in the long-running conflict.

At least 74 people, mostly civilians, were killed and 83 were wounded between Dec. 2 and 7, as Rwanda-backed M23 rebels advanced in South Kivu province, with thousands fleeing into Rwanda and Burundi, according to an emailed UN statement.
