The European Union is reviewing tariffs on an electric SUV that Volkswagen AG produces in China, raising the prospect of relief for the German automaker from the bloc’s heightened levies.

The European Commission revealed the move in an official EU journal on Thursday. It comes just over a year after the bloc imposed tariffs peaking at around 45% on EVs from China, ratcheting up trade tensions between the export powers.
