Samsung Governance Bets Drive 12% Gain in C&T’s Stock to Record

Samsung C&T Corp. shares surged to a record high as news that Jay Y. Lee is increasing his stake in the company spurred investor optimism over possible key changes in Samsung group holdings.

The de facto holding company of the family-controlled business group, Samsung C&T said in a regulatory filing late Tuesday that Hong Ra-hee will transfer all of her shares to Lee as of January 2. As a result, his stake will rise to 20.82% from 19.76%. Shares of Samsung C&T jumped as much as 12% on the Korea Exchange.
