Norway, one of Europe’s most reliable power exporters, is poised to become a net buyer in the coming years — a shift that may drastically cut vital flows to the UK and the continent.

The Nordic nation has over the past few decades built several large cables that are used to ship its cheap hydro power abroad. The flows are particularly useful at times of low wind because they complement coal and gas plants.
