Japan’s DOGE ‘Essential’ for Keeping Market Trust, Katayama Says

Japan launched its own version of the Department of Government Efficiency with an inaugural meeting setting out plans to identify and weed out ineffective tax measures and subsidies.

“By eliminating waste through everyone’s efforts, including the public’s, and directing funds to areas that truly need them, we will draw a clear contrast with previous administrations,” Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama told reporters Tuesday after the first Japanese DOGE meeting. “This is essential for maintaining trust in the nation, in our currency and in the market.”
