Bulgaria’s prime minister refused to resign despite mass protests, saying that his country needs stable government as it prepares to adopt the euro in less than a month.

“After 20 years of European Union membership, we have the opportunity to complete this process,” Rosen Zhelyazkov, who leads a minority cabinet backed by parties across the political spectrum, told reporters in the capital Sofia. “We shouldn’t fail in this in the next few weeks.”
