Bulgarian protesters clashed with the police in the biggest rally in more than a decade that took place only a month before the Balkan country is set to join the euro area.

Tens of thousands gathered in Sofia on Monday in protest against the government’s 2026 budget plans backed by the ruling coalition. Political tensions have risen in recent months and have marred the run-up to euro adoption in January.
