At Via Appia, a deli tucked into a leafy neighborhood in eastern Caracas, the well-heeled customers were loading up one recent morning on the half-turkeys, pecan pies and mashed sweet potatoes. Never mind that Thanksgiving isn’t even a holiday in Venezuela or, for that matter, that just a few nights before President Nicolás Maduro had taken to the airwaves to implore his compatriots to “give their lives” if necessary to fend off a US invasion.
