Incumbent political coalitions seemed on track to retain the governorship of three Italian regions, according to preliminary data on Monday, as the country gears up for a general election that could take place as early as next year.

Voters in Apulia and Campania were projected to confirm the center-left coalition, with the center-right retaining Veneto, according to exit polls published by state broadcaster Rai. Turnout fell significantly in all three regions.
