Budget Largess Risks Poland’s Economic Trajectory, IMF Says

The International Monetary Fund called for “decisive reforms” to fix Poland’s lax fiscal policy and structural obstacles that threaten the country’s ability to converge with the world’s most-developed economies.

In a statement following its annual consultations in Warsaw, the IMF said on Monday that Poland’s economic growth is set to accelerate next year but that the improvement is coming at the cost of a sharp deterioration in budget policy. Poland’s fiscal shortfall is seen approaching 7% of gross domestic product this year and is remaining above 6% next year.
