Texas and its Republican leaders asked the US Supreme Court to reinstate a GOP-drawn congressional map in a clash that could determine which party controls the House after next year’s midterm election.

The emergency filing comes days after a lower court said the map, drawn at President Donald Trump’s behest, was probably an unconstitutional racial gerrymander. The decision dealt a blow to Republican hopes of picking up five new seats in Texas.
