Germany Says Merz, Trump Discussed Ukraine Steps in Phone Call

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and President Donald Trump discussed Ukraine in a phone call Friday, a German government spokesman said, as the US steps up pressure for a peace deal with Russia.

Merz will brief Germany’s European partners about the conversation with Trump, spokesman Stefan Kornelius told reporters ahead of the chancellor’s departure for a Group of 20 summit in South Africa.
